I remember seeing this guy on the Young Drivers’ Test and wondering way back then if it was the actual driver, or just a reference of sorts. As it turns out, that’s our actual 2016 Indy 500 Champion right there, accurate helmet design and all.

That's pretty cool! Let's hope he finds his was back into F1 for 2017... that Indy win will probably draw some more attention. Rossi for Torro Rosso?

Ideally, yeah, but Gutierrez has his Ferrari connection so as long as he doesn’t majorly F up he’ll have his ride guaranteed next season, and if Grosjean doesn’t get the Ferrari drive (which he totally should), then there are no seats open. Haas (understandably) wants experience over speed, which is why he didn’t pick up Rossi. It’d be awesome to see though! American team AND American driver!

It’s not great for sponsorship apparently if you have a completely one nation team. Like when Mclaren hand Button & Hamilton it was all too British for some international sponsors, I can only imagine if Haas went all American it would be similar. One American would be good, heck even one in F1 period would be good. Rossi could be that guy.

Agreed, although an all American team isn't really possible as there's no other fit American driver.

Fit as in physically or in terms of talent?

Neither really, but more FIA legality-wise. There are certainly some skilled enough to race in F1 but most high-level American drivers are found in IndyCar, and IRL does not count to a Super License. Racing series that do count have very few American drivers... None in GP2, one in GP3, one in Euro F3. Rossi is the best US option by far right now
